Workshop in Indonesia, August 23 and 24, 2023

Applied Statistical Analysis using R Software at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, Indonesia

On August 23 and 24, 2023, the workshop on "Applied Statistical Analysis using R Software" was held at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, Indonesia. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and the association of agricultural economics (PERHEPI) Makassar Commissariat. The workshop was designed to enable participants to use statistical software "R", and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. Most of participants did not have any knowledge on the “R” software prior to this workshop. Therefore, they were introduced to basic commands for statistical analysis and data handling in R on the first day, after a brief lecture on model selection and the Akaike information criterion (AIC). Although there was a gap in proficiency among the participants, they were able to help each other. On the second day, the participants learned about graphics and the basics of regression analysis. The participants used the data set to estimate the parameters of a growth function. Everyone participant was enthusiastic about attending the workshop and expressed interest looking forward to future workshops. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 27 participants. It was primarily led by Dr. Suardi Bakri, Chairman of PERHEPI Makassar and his team; Professor Ambo Asse, Rector of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (UNISMUH), Dr. Andi Khaeriyah, Dean of College of Agriculture at UNISMUH with assistance from the workshop participants (faculty members, graduate students, bachelor students, etc.).
