Statistical Analysis using "R" Software for forest resource management in Nepal ~Level I~

On January 11 and 12, 2022, the workshop on " Statistical Analysis using "R" Software for forest resource management in Nepal ~Level I~" was held online using Zoom meeting platform due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and the Institute of Forestry, Tribhuvan University through the activity of MoU. In order to build capacity for forest resource management in Nepal, this workshop was designed to enable participants to use statistical software, "R", and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. The participants learned about basics of the R software in remote setting, using their own computers. On the first day, the participants learned about the basic commands for statistical analysis, data handling and creating graphics in R. On the second day, after the participants went through the remaining topics of graphics and multivariate visualization in R, they learned about linear and nonlinear regression models. Although, there was a gap in proficiency among the participant, they were able to help each other by sharing their ideas and commands through a chat tool. Also, it seemed that a chat tool made the workshop interactive, lively and fruitful. All participants expressed interest looking forward to similar event in the following year. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 67 participants. The workshop was run mainly by Mr. Shreekanta S. Khatiwada from Institute of Forestry Pokhara Campus under the support by Prof. Bir Bahadur Khanal Chhetri, Dean of the institute.
