Workshop on Statistical Analysis for Forest Resource Management: Level 4 Generalized Linear Model

On September 4 and 5, 2018, the "Workshop on Statistical Analysis for Forest Resource Management: Level 4 Generalized Linear Model" was held at MoU signing research Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development, Cambodia. This workshop emulated previous workshops in February and October, 2017 which were targeted exclusively at more experienced users. This workshop was targeted at those who completed the workshops in 2017. However, several first-time participants registered for the workshop, so a proficiency test was given to each participant prior to the start of the workshop. To close the gap in proficiency among the participants, self-study materials were distributed as well. These attempts not only allowed us to identify technical challenges and difficulties that the participants encountered, but stimulated discussions during the workshop. The main topic covered in this workshop was Generalized linear model (GLM). By covering both regression of continuous variables (such as linear regression and non-linear regression based on growth function) and regression of discrete variables (such as logistic regression, Poisson regression) in the lecture, the participants learned about the basic concepts of GLM. Some participants were interested in the theoretical background of GLM. The participants expressed interest looking forward to attending a workshop covering more advanced topics in the future. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 32 participants attending the workshop. The workshop was run mainly by the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development Forestry Administration, Acting Director of Cambodia, Dr. Sokh Heng, and Ms. Lim Sopheap.
