Training on Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management: Level 3

On October 19 and 20, 2017, the "Training on Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management Level 3" was held at MoU signing research Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development, Cambodia. The workshop was designed to enable participants to use statistical software "R" and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data.

Prior to this workshop, there was a request from the institute in Phnom Penh to review the materials and topics covered in the previous workshop held in February. Therefore, the workshop was designed to cover the same contents as the previous one. The participants were mainly either researcher at the institute or college students. Since most of college students attended this workshop for the first time, basic topics were also covered on the first day. Using a real growth data set, the participants learned about calculating basic statistics, graphics, and regression analysis in R. The lecturers covered both linear and nonlinear regression analysis, model selection procedures and growth projection. The interactive lecturing style provided the participants with opportunities to fix programming errors more efficiently and follow the materials better. The participants look forward to attending a workshop covering more advanced topics in the future. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 31 participants. The workshop was run mainly by the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development Forestry Administration, Acting Director of Cambodia, Dr. Sokh Heng, and Ms. Lim Sopheap.
