2021 Internship Seminar at ISM

On March 16 and 17, 2021, the “Online Seminar AgFReM Research Consortium in ISM Special Lecture on Statistics with R” was held online using Zoom meeting platform due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This workshop was sponsored and organized by AgFReM Research Consortium. There were a total of 15 participants from seven different countries (Cambodia, Canada, Laos, Nepal, Portugal, Taiwan, USA) including four from Japan. The meeting featured both lectures by statistics researchers and research presentations by forest researchers. On the first day, Dr. Kamo (Sapporo Medical Univ.) and Dr. Murakami (ISM) gave lectures on survival data analysis and spatial regression analysis respectively. There was a lively discussion among participants on the application of survival data analysis to snow damage of a standing tree. Also, many participants were interested in the scripts and data used for spatial regression analysis. On the second day, Prof. Tonda (Hiroshima Prefectural Univ.) gave a lecture on a regression model with nuisance trend for longitudinal data. Some participants were wondering how could this modeling approach apply to practical forest management problems and shared their views and ideas with other participants and lecturers. All participants expressed interest looking forward to an event in the following year.
