Workshop in Philippines on November 6, 2025
International Seminar on Forest Resources Management and Assessment
On November 6, 2025, an international seminar on forest resources management and assessment was held in the Everlasting Hall, New Research and Extension Building at the Benguest State University in the Philippines. This event was jointly organized by the Risk Analysis Research Center at ISM and the college of Forestry, Center for Geoinformatics, as part of their collaborative activities under a Memorandum of Understanding. The sole purpose of this workshop was to introduce the participants to forest resource management and assessment of forest resources. The event began with opening remarks by Dr. Nova D. Doyog (Dean, College of Forestry), followed by a message from Dr. Kenneth A. Laruan (President, Benguest State University). Following the president’s message, a faculty member of the college, Levi Ezekiel Diapan, took the stage and introduced the speakers. The first speaker at the event was Dr. Peter Surovy. His lecture was on the Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Remote Sensing for Forest Resource Assessment. Dr. Surovy’s lecture was followed by a lecture by Dr. Patrick Asante. His lecture was on Forest Economics: Valuation of Forest Resources. The final speaker of the day was Dr. Atsushi Yoshimoto, who graced the occasion with a lecture on “Introduction to Forest Management”. The speakers were followed by an open forum, where participants were allowed to question the speakers. The discussions were lively as measured by the level of enthusiasm. The event ended with Dr. Nova Doyog and Department Chairs awarding Tokens and Certificates to the speakers. Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Josel M. Florentin (Vice President for University Business Affairs).
