Applied Statistical Analysis with “R” Software for Forestry Research 2022

We held a two-day workshop of “Applied Statistical Analysis using “R” Software for Forestry Research 2022” from October 25-26, 2022, at the Forest Inventory and Planning Institute, Vietnam. The workshop was jointly organized by the Institute of Statistical Mathematics Risk Analysis Strategy Research Center and the Forest Inventory and Planning Institute, Vietnam.The workshop was aimed at mastering data analysis, especially forest data analysis, using the statistical analysis software R. We have held a total of five workshops in Vietnam since 2016. Most of the participants were first timers, as a result we tried to eliminate the differences in proficiency among participants by combining lectures with exercises. Until now, workshops were set at levels from I to VII, and the content was built according to the level of understanding of the participants, to meet the needs of the participants. For the first time, we created and distributed a workbook (in Vietnamese) covering all the levels. It appears that the use of workbooks written in Vietnamese have reduced the “language barrier” and have helped participants to improve their understanding and clearing points that were difficult to understand. From the first day, there was a lively question and answer session on the latest methods derived from the exercises. It seems that the use of the statistical software R to analyze data has become quite popular in Vietnam due to the publication of books on R in Vietnamese. The workshop was managed mainly by Dr. Nguyen Hung Dinh of Forest Inventory and Planning Institute, Vietnam. 24 participants attended the workshop this time around.
