Quantitative Analysis for Ecological Risks and Sustainability Certification: Application of "R" Software in Natural and Social Sciences
On December 13 and 14, 2017, the "Quantitative Analysis for Ecological Risks and Sustainability Certification: Application of "R" Software in Natural and Social Sciences" was held at University of Lampung in Sumatra, Indonesia. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and AgriBusiness, University of Lampung, Indonesia.
The workshop was designed to enable participants to use statistical software "R" and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. On the first day, to give a glimpse of this workshop and what the R software can do for the participants, growth model selection and spatial statistical analysis based on geographic information system were presented as demonstrative analyses. Most of the participants were either research staff or graduate students at AgriBusiness, University of Lampung, and had never used the R software before. Therefore, the lecture covered the basic rule of R commands, data handling and graphics in R. On the second day, the participants learned about regression analysis and model selection based on AIC. This was our first workshop provided in Indonesia, so the content of lectures during the workshop was limited to very basic topics. The participants were very enthusiastic about attending the workshop and express interest looking forward to an event in the following year. Also, there were several requests for the workshop to cover more advanced topics such as time series analysis. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 40 participants. It was run mainly by Prof. Bustanul Arifin and others at Agribusiness, University of Lampung.
