Workshop in Vietnam, November 8 and 9, 2015
Training on Intermediate Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management
On November 8 and 9, 2015, the "Training on Intermediate Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management" was held at MoU signing research Institute of Forest Inventory and Planning Institute (FIPI), Vietnam. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and FIPI, Vietnam. The workshop emulated previous workshop held in March, with the aim of developing human resources involved in the implementation of forest resources management in Vietnam. It was targeted at individuals with some experience of using the R software. In the morning of the first day, exercise problems were given to the participants for the benefit of reviewing the basic topics covered in the previous workshop. In the afternoon, solutions for the exercise problems were provided and discussed, and the participants reviewed the topics and materials leaned in the previous workshop. On the second day, simple growth functions were introduced and the participants explored the parameters for those models, using nonlinear regression models after reviewing the materials covered during the first day. The workshop ended successfully with a total of 20 participants. This was the second workshop since the workshop started in 2014 in Vietnam. Therefore, all participants were more or less familiar with R and this allowed the sessions to run smoothly. All participants expressed satisfaction of looking forward to the following year workshop. It was run mainly by Dr. Nguyen Hung Dinh from FIPI, Vietnam.
