Workshop in Cambodia, February 9 and 10, 2015
Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management
On February 9 and 10, 2015, the "Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management" was held at the Forest and Wildlife Training Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, as part of the "International Research Network Development" project. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development, Cambodia. This training workshop emulated previous year workshop, with the aim of developing human resources involved in the implementation of forest resources management in Cambodia. It was designed to enable participants to use statistical software "R" and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. During the first half of the workshop, the participants reviewed the topics covered in the previous year workshop, such as data handling and obtaining and understanding summary statistics, as well as graphics in R. Two different screens (main and sub) were prepared so that those who are participating in the workshop for the first time could review scripts and commands for basic processes anytime, using a sub-screen where a list of scripts and commands was displayed. At the end of the workshop, all participants were able to estimate the parameters for the growth model using nonlinear regression models. The experienced participants who attended the previous workshop were able to follow the workshop without any problem. It was suggested that the continuous workshops could contribute to the improvement of data analysis skills of the participants. At the same time, the difference in knowledge and ability of the participants was increasing, and dealing with these diverse participants would be an issue for future workshops. The workshop successfully ended with a total of 28 participants. It was run mainly by the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development Forestry Administration, Cambodia, Dr. Sokh Heng, and Ms. Lim Sopheap.
