Workshop in Philippines, December 15 to 17, 2014
R-Training: Introduction to R statistics
From December 15 to 17, 2014, the "R-Training: Introduction to R statistics" was held in Los Ba?os, Philippines. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and Institute of Biological Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Ba?os, Philippines. The aim of the training workshop was developing human resources involved in the implementation of land use and forest resources management in the Philippines. It was designed to enable participants to use statistical software, "R", and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. On the first day, the participants learned about how to install the R software and data handling in R. The second day, the participants learned about the basic commands for statistical analysis and graphics in R. On the last day of the workshop, the participants learned about regression models and how to estimate the parameters for a growth model for a given dataset. The participants then leaned about model selection based on AIC. The participants were very enthusiastic about attending the workshop and expressed their interest looking forward to an event in the following year. The workshop ended successfully with the completion ceremony, where each participant received a certificate of completion. There were a total of 37 participants. The workshop was run mainly by Dr. Damasa B. Magcale-Macandog from University of the Philippines Los Ba?os.
