Workshop in Cambodia, August 27 to 29, 2014
Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management
The "Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management" was held at the Forest and Wildlife Training Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from August 27 to 29, 2014. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development, Cambodia. This training workshop emulated previous year workshop with the aim of developing human resources involved in the implementation of forest resources management in Cambodia. It was designed to enable participants to use statistical software "R" and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. On the first day, the participants learned about how to install the R software and data handling in R. The second day, the participants learned about the basic commands for performing statistical analysis and graphics in R. On the last day of the workshop, the participants were divided into two groups based on their learning levels and they were individually given the opportunity to learn simple statistical analysis with R. Finally, they learned about regression models and how to estimate the parameters for the growth model for a given dataset. The participants were very enthusiastic about attending the workshop and expressed their interest, looking forward to the following year workshop. The workshop was run mainly by the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development Forestry Administration, Acting Director of Cambodia, Dr. Sokh Heng, and others.
