Workshop in Cambodia, September 25 to 27, 2013
Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management
XThe workshop on "Training on Introduction to Statistical Analysis in "R" for Forest Resource Management" was held at the Forest and Wildlife Training Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from September 25 to 27, 2013. This workshop was co-sponsored and organized by Risk Analysis Research Center, ISM, and Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development, Cambodia. This training workshop was built on the previous year training workshop, with the aim of developing human resources involved in the implementation of forest resources management in Cambodia. It was designed to enable participants to use statistical software, "R", and to conduct a hands-on approach to dealing with various statistical analyses on data. Because a number of new participants joined this workshop, a short lecture on the introduction to R was given on the first day to bring them to speed, before the participants were asked to install the “R” software on their computers. After the introductory session, the participants were introduced to data handing with R. On the second day, the participants reviewed what they learnt the previous day before proceeding to conducting data handling and processing without assistance. The participants then learned about graphics in R. On the last day of the workshop, the participants learned about regression models and how to estimate the parameters for a growth model for a given dataset. Everyone was very enthusiastic about attending the workshop. Numerous questions were raised by the participants, even during the break, and the instructors could not get enough break. The workshop ended successfully with the completion ceremony, where each participant received a certificate of completion. The participants expressed their interest, looking forward to an event in the following year. The workshop was run mainly by the Institute of Forest and Wildlife Research and Development Forestry Administration, Acting Director of Cambodia, Dr. Sokh Heng, and others.
