Forest Restoration and Management in Mekong Lowlands in Cambodia
Although various APFNet-funded projects with the aim of increasing forest cover have been undertaken in Cambodia, there has been an increasing awareness that the current forest management practices has been threatening sustainable use of forest resources. There has been a pressing need for the usage of an appropriate forest management plan that considers spatial and temporal allocation of harvest, and reforestation activities without depleting forest resources. In order to achieve sustainable use of forest resources in this region, it is important to develop a forest management plan that considers both reforestation projects and harvest/planting forest management activities simultaneously. In this project we develop an optimization system which allows us to allocate reforestation activities and harvest/planting forest management activities over space and time to meet a set of management goals, as well as conduct policy analysis of forest resources utilization.
